jcstitches: Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem I adore the nostalgic beauty illustrations. They’re full of warm colors and charm and hundreds of little details, and I would love to take my own art closer. The mice of Brambly Hedge have many adventures but they always have time for fun too. All through the year, they mark the seasons with feasts and festivities and, of course, the mice never miss an opportunity to meet and celebrate. This beautifully designed slipcase contains four classic stories following their adventures throughout the year. Jill Barklem was born in Epping, (UK) in 1951. After an accident when she was thirteen, Jill was unable to take part in PE or games at school and instead developed her talent for drawing and art. On leaving school, she studied illustration at St Martin's in London.

Jill Barklem continues her wonderful saga of the tree mice, this time spreading their adventures a little further from home. It brings the excitement
of a new world ready to explore for those brave enough to dare.

This is a great story, although I wish it was contained in a larger book to enhance the detailed illustrations. It is a mice adventure with the children sailing to down the river to sea to visit relatives, who harvest salt from the sea water. Brambley Hedge is running out of salt and the children respond to the task.

Charming, beautiful illustrations, sweet stories.

There's a lot of minute-by-minute detail of ship operation (liquid gas tanker) written by someone who knows it inside out. Not much character development. I loved it but definitely not for everybody.
Very cute; love the illustrations and the book size.
