Doctor: "I called at the Sterns' house at nine-fifteen. I was rather later than I had planned to be because I visited another patient. When Mrs Stern let me into the house she seemed rather embarrassed and showed me into the sitting-room. I could hear Trevor Stern was shouting at someone in his study. Mrs Stern said something about teenage girls and that they had problems with Lucy.

Should give us just the right amount of time to pull up alongside for your climb. The Gator was buffeted by the wake of the Colossus 5 as they approached it from the stern. Juan tied a nylon rope between him, Murph, and Linc for Murph’s benefit. Any lights coming from the ship? Running lights, but no spotlights. Pull up next to the darkest part of the ship. The weapons designer wasn’t the most athletic person on the ship, although he often turned the Oregon’s deck into a skateboard park on their R & R. Juan would lead the climb, followed by Murph, then Linc.

It's a book that's wonderful for reading or for cooking. The greatest restaurants in America are its wonderful independent regional restaurants. And there are no greater experts on America's regional restaurants than Michael and Jane Stern. Coast to coast, said the New York Times, they know where to find the freshest lobster rolls, the fluffiest pancakes, the crispiest catfish. Lifestyle & Sports. "Observations From the Stern" is a really entertaining ride along with a true Maine fishing guide, as he shares some of his most humorous experiences and observations culled from decades of guiding sports in pursuit of salmon, trout and bass in the East Grand Lake area in Maine. Dale Wheaton is a born storyteller who finds the humor in genuine, real life experiences, from the most mundane to the most unusual encountered in a lifetime on the water. The book is a delight to read, sort of like spending a few days in the wild with a friend who is letting you in on his best jokes and stories, all recounted with great intelligence and flair. A great gift for any fisherman or outdoorsman. So sorry to see it is out of print! Time for a second edition, Dale!

My husband is a Master Maine Guide and this book describes some of his experiences and his often tactfully suppressed thoughts about clueless clients perfectly. It's a treasure!

Observations from the Stern, a witty and classic Maine story, is told by Mr. Dale Wheaton. Dale, as his friends, family, colleagues, and clients call him is a "wicked" humorous gentleman with an emphasis on the gentle. Dale's story is one that will make you laugh so hard you'll spill your Moxie, and can make a grown man giggle like a school girl. Dale's story is so beautiful, funny, and real. Living in Maine for almost 20 years, and knowing Dale for 7 of them, I would recommend this story for anyone who is interested in the great outdoors and the wilderness of Maine. Fishermen of all sorts will enjoy this perfect comedy.
Whitestone
Humor with the proper level of Downeast dryness.
Like John Gould's stories, these funny anecdotes seem to keep smarting years later. As good a description of the life of the eastern Maine guides and their eccentric "sports" as I have ever found. An unusual perspective on fishing as well.
The only accounts of "moose riding" I have found in print, and fine at that.
