Lewis Hill seems like the type of guy you'd like to be neighbors with.
This book is very informative and I love his writing style. Instead of a "dry" text, Lewis draws you into the world of fruit like he is introducing you to his best friends. Although this is a great reference work, I read it all the way through because he is so engaging in his presentation of material. I got it thru the library but am buying it because it is worthy of a place on the shelf on any fruit grower.

One small point to consider: if you are strictly organic you may be slightly disappointed. He takes a "middle of the road" approach to chemicals in the orchard. He try's to avoid them if possible and gives great advice on buying trees that won't need as much spraying.

Highly recommended.

I purchased it to know more about the berries I grow and how I can do better. Well, I like the style this book is written and it has a plethora of great information about almost all the berries which are available for the home gardener with easy, understandable advise. It is a great book for the beginner and also the more seasoned gardener.
A lot of useful tips and tricks. If you want a good book for a good price on this subject, in my humble opinion, this is it.

This book is just what I needed to help plan my new 'edible' landscape. It gives alot of good information in an easy to read formate. The author even remembered to list plants that will do best in hot zones as well as the cold zones. I have found that many books only tell you how cold tolerant a plant is, forgetting that in some areas (the deep South), heat tolerance is an important factor too.
All in all, a very nice book and well worth the price..

Not only is this book a very good read, but the information is set up in a way that is easy to find and easy to understand. I am in the beginning stages of my orchard (just planted my trees last spring) and this book is by far my favorite. This book is very user friendly, and covers everything that you will need to know. The author takes the "middle of the road" approach to his orchard, so organic orchardis beware, he does recommend useing some sprays. If you only buy one book on orcharding or growing berries, this one to buy. Plus the recipies on the back of the book are excelent! my favorite is apple macaroon recipie my husband can't get enough of it.

Good fruit-by-fruit review on virtually every bush, vine, and tree that can be planted in the backyard, told in a folksy style.

It's like listening to the old grandpa down the road share what he's learned in fifty years of orcharding. A fun book to read--- I only wish I had a bigger yard.
I think this is my favorite book for growing fruits! Written in an informative and entertaining way, and full of helpful tips
