The Chinese village of Dafen once produced an estimated 60 percent of the world’s oil paintings. Now, a number of factors have converged to make the future for its artists and artisans uncertain. A so-called Chinese urban village, Dafen once produced an estimated 60 percent of all the world’s oil paintings. During its heyday-when the village’s reputation as an art factory rang truer than today-it almost exclusively cranked out copies of paintings in the Western art canon. These canvases found their way into hotel rooms, show homes, and furniture outlets all around the world.

I discovered this series earlier this year and have read every one. After ordering this last book in the series I re-read all the others but when I finished this last installment I was disappointed. All the sub-plots are rather disjointed and the one about Caroline not knowing what had happened to her twins in Africa didn't ring true. She had already been told what happened in the book entitled "The Village Feud" so I don't understand why this was brought up again and the reader supposed to act like they hadn't already known it. Towards the end of the book in a conversation between Jimbo and Craddock Jimbo mentions that his daughter Fran will be taking over the store at some point but in the next sentence regrets that he mentioned that his daughter Flick will be doing so. I'm very disappointed that these mistakes were made. The introduction of the new characters isn't done with enough depth. I look forward to reading the next installment and hope that it is better than this one.

Reading this series makes you feel as if you are actually living in the village. You get to love and not like all the various characters. Rebecca Shaw's books are peopled by "ordinary" people, sinners and those who think they are saints!

The latest in the Turnham Malpas series does not disappoint. All the favorites are included with a couple of extra players. A nice feel-good read that leaves you wanting more. Hopefully there will be another along soon!

Another great addition to the Turnham Malpas series. I like how these books have developed your understanding of the town, and I've loved watching the twins grow up.

Rebecca Shaw's Turnham Malpas books are such a delight to read. You will fall in love with every character she introduces you to. They are so well written, humour, intrigue, gossip!!! Everything needed to keep you turning the pages and waiting for her next book to come out. Start at the beginning with "The New Rector" and keep on going. These will be loved, shared and re-read by you and all the women in your family.
