We are offered a very readable textbook in this work. The author speaks in casual tones in anecdotes and proper technical terms (well-defined, of course!) when covering professional concepts. Like many other education texts, there is a profusion of pictures, text boxes and diagrams that may detract from reading the basic content, but the peripheral items are germane to the proximal content.

Bottom line: Nicely done. Covers the main aspects of modern Middle School life. Explains fully the difference between Middle School and Junior High, with a detailed enumeration of why the United States benefits from a shift from the latter to the former.

Good book. Does it repeat what other texts have already said...? Yes... but this book was used for an education class so I wasn't surprised.

Very helpful for class. Has some good points in if for the development stages of adolescents. Teachers that teach in Middle School should at least glance through this book - will give you a better insight into the growth of the students.

The book makes sweeping generalizations that seems like common sense. However since this was a mandatory book for a grad school class I like it for that purpose. It is an easy read and makes sense. The book is organized and follows coherent conditions determined by national and state teaching needs for Middle School. Yet, in my experience no book can ever teach you as much about teaching as actually being in the classroom.

Well organized and easy to read! Some info is a little outdated, as it is an older edition, but this is a great guide for development as a middle school teacher!

This was the book that I needed for class. It arrived in a timely manner. Although, the author could work on using a little bit of creativity when writing. It was a horrendously boring book. I think I would rather stick a rusty fork covered in hot sauce in my eye than have to read this book again. At least the class was an easy A.

Awesome. Everything you ever wanted to know about middle school. Highly recommended for any of the brave teachers that dare to teach this age leve.
