I enjoy the idea it was written in 1882. I have a problem with no book notes. He is from the Great Lakes area which helps and he is a professor at a college and a historian. I am now reading Teddy Roosevelt book on the topic. He provides a lot of sources but his writing is quite clumsy. It is still interesting to read these books that will closer to the time that it happened. Teddy thinks the ground battles are not worth talking about except for Andrew Johnson's New Orleans battle. He goes into the naval battles in incredible detail. And he cross-examines historians of the time especially the British historian James..

This book has a copyright of 2015 and therefore I assumed it was a recent creation but it is not. The author died in 1931 and given the general descriptions I would suppose it was likely written many years before that. An interesting story with just enough detail to be interesting to read but not too much to drag it out. The most interesting parts are his predictions/ hopes at the end of the book regarding the greatness of America. One wonders what his thoughts would be if he could experience it in 2017.

Rather detailed account of political life in Maine and Massachusetts prior to and during the war, but accounts of the relatively few military actions in the area are quite brief.

This book was written in the 1800's and I found it very informative. In my opinion I find that the closer to the actual event, the more accurate the information.

Must have been written 100 years ago. No regret for having bought it, I learned a bit. But very skimpy on the important items and very verbose on the unnecessary details

A good book that gives a over view of the war.
