There are several repritings of this book floating around- this is the one we have used with the orange on the cover.
This is the book I used to teach my three children U.S. History. Some colleges use this book I believe and several AP teachers I know use this book for their classes. There is a more recent printing available now but this is the one we have used and if I can save and still have a quality book, I'm going to do that. So we didn't order the most recent printing.

One of the things I liked about this is that the publisher offers support in the form of author videos that you can watch before each chapter. In the video the author talks about what you will be learning about in the upcoming chapter. If you want to sign up and pay for more access you can access quizzes etc

This book is very dense. It has a lot of information for a not very big book. It is an interesting read, I enjoyed reading it even though I have finished school many years ago.

I believe that if you read this book and then took the Clep exam or AP exam in U.S. History you would pass the exam and get the credit without taking the class.

My book goes from page 288 and straight to page 353. It's missing pages. I didn't even realize it until I was trying to read chapter 8. How horrible. We have assignments for each chapter. How awful.

Ok, this is for a class. This is the vol2 from the Civil War forward. My only gripe is that this is a "brief" version, so for the sake of a class timeline, so far, there is no depth into certain important historical events. Then again, that self-explains the "brief" version. The author covers all the major events but if your looking for something in-depth on the topics, you may want to try his full version which is lengthy.

I needed this book for an online US History class. I learned a lot while reading this book however, it was quick and didn't explain as much as I would have liked it to. It's like sitting in a class where you have so much to learn and there is no room for questions because it needs to go quick. That's how it felt reading this book. The text was simple to understand which was good.

Outstanding. I knew Dr. Foner was a brilliant scholar and writer after reading some of his shorter work and taking part in his eye-opening free online course on the Civil War and Reconstruction, so when I saw that he had written a textbook on American history, I was immediately interested to see how his style would translate to the textbook genre. I have not been disappointed. I am curious, though, how much I am missing by not getting the full edition with all of the extra material; however, I could not be more pleased with this concise, yet thorough treatment of American history--and for a reasonable price for a full, comprehensive text like this. Truly great. (Also, do yourself a favor and check our his book The Fiery Trial, and his online course mentioned above. You won't regret it.)

Hey all,this is actually the second book of the Give Me Liberty series by Eric Foner that I have reviewed and it is every bit as fantastic as the first one if not even better than the first!! While the first one pretty much focused on the early history of the Republic. This picks up where the first left off(Reconstruction to the beginning of Barack Obama's second term)and I have to say "Oh my, what a history book!." This book is the greatest that I have ever read on US history!!! I won't go too much into detail as I would be writing one lengthy review that might take the entire night and I don't feel like doing that right now! All I can say is if the future of our country(United States of America) and the world matters to you please read this book!!! You won't regret it!! My Dream US History book set has finally come to fruition(I hope this also book gets assigned more often in history classes or actually replaces the previous books I mentioned in my other review) and I have a brilliant scholar and historian in the name of Eric Foner to thank! Thanks again very much Prof. Foner! 5 stars!!!. Highly recommended read!!

Required text for American History at college. I was familiar with the post-Civil War era but I learned quite a bit by just sitting down and pre-reading this book before my classes started. A very honest look at American History without much bias in any one direction or the other. After reading the first few chapters you'll suddenly realize that America hasn't changed much as far as repeating itself.

I used this for History 102 and it was my first amazon rental. The price beat out all available rental competition for Fall semester in 2016. The return is free and simple. I just kept the box it came in and removed the old tag and put the new one on when I had to return it. I would definitely use their rental program again.
