Richard Benjamin Moore (9 August 1893 – 1978) was a Barbados-born African-Caribbean civil rights activist and prominent Socialist. He was also one of the earlier advocates of the term African American as opposed to Negro, or "black". Richard Benjamin Moore was a Barbadian writer born on 9 August 1893 in Barbados, West Indies, to Richard Henry Moore and Josephine Thorne Moore. In Barbados, the Richard Henry and Josephine Moore family was considered middle-class in terms of socioeconomic status.

Richard Moore is the author of ten volumes of poetry, one of which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. His earlier books include two poetry collections from Orchises Press, No More Bottom (1991) and Bottom Is Back (1994). His most recent poetry book is The Naked Scarecrow, published in spring 2000 by Truman State University Press/New Odyssey Series. He has also published a novel, The Investigator (Story Line Press, 1991); a collection of essays, The Rule That Liberates (University of South Dakota Press, 1994); and translations including Euripedes' Hippolytus (in the University of Pennsylvania Press Greek Drama Series).

Richard Moore is a freelance journalist and author. His second book, Heroes, Villains & Velodromes, was long-listed for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year. He writes on cycling and sport and is a regular contributor to the Guardian, Sky Sports, and The Scotsman. Moore is a former bike racer who represented Scotland at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
