The nice thing about the free version is that Shaw explains the playlet (not sure I've heard that term before, but not a huge theater person) and it's relation to the ongoing war (WWI). It makes much more sense if you understand that. Certainly worth a read, but wasn't my cup of tea.

This is one of Shaw's minor plays - maybe that's why you never heard of it before - I know I hadn't. How is it? OK. NOt terrible, not great, but hey! It's by Shaw - and thus worth the read.

George Bernard Shaw mocks the events of World War I in this short one act "playlet," as he calls it. A daughter of an arch deacon whose father married her to a multi-millionaire, whose husband died, and who was left without money because of various events, goes to work for a princess as a house maid, and takes control of the princess' life because the princess is rather silly; she does not even know how to use a phone.
The Inca is the leader of a country called Perusalem. He like the Germans in real life is at war with the world. He comes to the hotel where the princess is lodged ostensibly to find a suitable woman to marry one of his sons. We find out, among much else, that every son is a fool. Although he continually extols himself, he is also a fool. The heroine, the house keeper, meets him saying she is the princess. The Inca explains to her why he feels that being at war is better than being at peace.
