Edmund Gustav Albrecht Husserl (1859-1938) was a German philosopher who established the school of phenomenology. While this book is often not considered as one of Husserl’s major works, I’ve always thought it one of his most interesting. He was born into a Jewish family (which later caused him to lose his academic position when the Nazis came to power in 1933), but was baptized as a Lutheran in 1886. Edmund Gustav Albrecht Husserl (/ˈhʊsɜːrl/ HUUSS-url, also US: /ˈhuːsɜːrl, ˈhʊsərəl/ HOO-surl, HUUSS-ər-əl, German: ; 8 April 1859 – 27 April 1938) was a German philosopher who established the school of phenomenology. In his early work, he elaborated critiques of historicism and of psychologism in logic based on analyses of intentionality. In his mature work, he sought to develop a systematic foundational science based on the so-called phenomenological reduction.
