Richard Mercer Dorson (March 12, 1916 – September 11, 1981) was an American folklorist, author, professor, and director of the Folklore Institute at Indiana University. Dorson was born in New York City. He studied at the Phillips Exeter Academy from 1929 to 1933. He then went on to Harvard University where he earned his . in history, and his P. degree in the History of American Civilization in 1942. He began teaching as an instructor of history at Harvard in 1943.

The guy had lined up early and was one of the first out on the track. He might have felt he needed to "lead" the others and got too bold. Sid went to New York to see his friend Bill Slater that he hasn't seen in a couple of years. Normally Bill went to the race track every year but this year he just couldn't make it. The book doesn't say why he couldn't make it so it could of been because of family, health, or personal reasons. The book also told a little bit about Hulman which attended Yale. Hulman got 7 letters from Yale and was on the undefeated Yale football team. He god 10 medals for pole vaulting and hurdling. Hulman graduated in 1924 with a degree in administrative engineering."
