The international media are generally harder to capture than domestic media. So, what can conflict actors do to minimise the negative impact of military actions on their image abroad? One possible strategy is to time attacks to moments when the attention of the international media is focused on other important events that would crowd out news coverage of the conflict

Media discourse and public opinion are treated as two parallel systems of constructing meaning

Media discourse and public opinion are treated as two parallel systems of constructing meaning. The analysis traces the careers of different interpretive packages on nuclear power from 1945 to the present. This media discourse, it is argued, is an essential context for understanding the formation of public opinion on nuclear power.

Does public opinion matter in international conflict resolution? .

Conflict of interest occurs at all levels of governance, ranging from local to global, both in the public and the corporate and financial spheres. There is increasing awareness that conflicts of interest may distort decision-making processes and generate inappropriate outcomes, thereby undermining the functioning of public institutions and markets. However, the current worldwide trend towards regulation, which seeks to forestall, prevent and manage conflicts of interest, has its price.

For the first time, a work that contains all that should be known about the media's orientation of the public mind in democratic societies, why this manipulation takes place, and in what manner. The Bewildered Herd does not only analyse the media's current functions and forms in human society but it also traces and discusses the various transformations that this increasingly powerful social actor has gone through. The case study used for the purposes of this work is both unequal and unique in its nature, depth, and revelations. It compares the media's coverage in two of the world's leading democracies (The United States and France) of two of the world's most important armed conflicts and crises. It analyses both countries national, economic, cultural, and social interests as well as their respective media's coverage of these two conflicts and reveals how public perceptions are affected by this coverage and how the agendas of both the media and the political establishment is best served by this manipulation of public opinion in democratic societies. Mechanisms and tactics used in conditioning the public are extensively revealed and analysed in a manner that is so comprehensive in its approach and in its explanations.

This book is, without a doubt, the result of serious and well conducted research made about how we are controled through the media and its influence on our daily lives. I definately recommend it, not only for reasearch purposes but also for the common citzen to get enlightened about it.

I'm a university professor and I'm recommending this book for my students this year, It will for sure give a lot of material for discussion on foreign policy and I think we will still hear a lot about this author in the future. I hope he has more to publish still.
