The right knows it has poison the airwaves and the left knows how. But the young does not know and believe everything they . I don't need Bill Press, or anyone else to tell me that the Righties have poisoned the Airwaves. But the young does not know and believe everything they hear. Lunatics like Glen Beck, and outright liars like Rush Lumbago have been doing it for years. Rush and Fox News have been nothing but the propaganda arm of the Republican Party for years.

Talk radio has done an end run around the voting populace. 7 Homegrown Toxic Talkers. 211. 8 How RightWing Talk Works. 235. 9 Progressives Fight Back. With Rush Limbaugh now the unofficial leader of the Republican Party and the far right controlling the five major syndicates, conservatives have a disproportionate voice in the medium-even in liberal cities such as New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Writing with his characteristic and incisive wit, Bill Press exposes the destructive power of Rush, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, and the other polarizing figures of talk radio who dominate 90% of the political airwaves today.

Bill Press has written a terrific book. it's entertaining and informative. Only those morons and Obama-haters who live inside The GOP Bubble will deny the truth that Bill publishes in this book. There is no shrieking; no left-wing bias; no over the top overstatements that I could find. My only complaint is that he didn't mention me as one of the early Liberal Talkers!

A timely cannon blast at the right-wing media machine and how it subverts the principles of democratic representation Talk radio has done an end run around the voting populace. With Rush Limbaugh now the unofficial leader of the Republican Party and the far right controlling the five major syndicates, conservatives have a disproportionate voice in the medium—even in liberal cities such as New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Writing with his characteristic and incisive wit, Bill Press exposes the destructive power of Rush, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Bill O’Reilly, and the other polarizing figures of talk radio who dominate 90% of the political airwaves today. Citing their own words as evidence, Press brilliantly makes the case that much of what is broadcast on radio and television today is—at best—distorted and partisan, and—at worst—lies, propaganda and bigotry sold by these talented modern-day pitchmen who have followings in the millions.

The terrible effect these corporate shills have on our ability to rationally interpret current events. Follow the money and it leads to the corporations that profit from war, deregulation, privatization and outsourcing and don't forget the prison moneymaker. If you are not in the one percent these blowhard quislings do not have your best interests in mind. Read Chomsky and Zinn to see the true source of hate media.

A partial explaination for the disappearance of the "Eisenhower Republicans" (moderates) and on the mark regarding why the American public (Not all, mainly a certain group of "deniers") has been dumbed down or become the ignorance is bliss crowd.

Scary how many lies are out there with extreme right wingers. I would definitely recommend this book. Definitely a good read.

brings a reader to see how conservative republicanism is trying to destroy this nationand purveyors of lies and hatred abuse the freedom of speech as fire in a crowded theater limits absolute freedom of speech so shoul dissemination of lies and hatred be limited in speech one to be called rush limit on speech - the other beck limit on freedom of speech. this nation has enough lies and hatred coming from the trisonous right.

It had a good insight into to how the right wing nuts operate. It also had a lot of background information that I didn't know before reading this book. Very well done

This is a very good book for those that have not heard the truth behind the talk radio of the far right or those who are aware of it, and just wanted to get more information about it. Bill Press has done some very good investigative journalism for this book. He simply puts the facts out there and lets the reader decide what to make of them. Some may want to send this to family or friends you know that are independent voters or those that are sitting on the Dem/Rep fence.
From the very beginning of the book, the author makes it clear that he is liberal and proud of it which I like because you can judge any bias from the beginning. The author even admits to a certain bias, which was refreshing.

The author identifies the conservative talkers that spew forth toxic talk in rough order of their prominence on the radio/television and follows by describing the personality of the talker (Rush the bully, Glenn the crier, etc.). Finally, the author finishes each section with examples of the type of material that they pour out every day on their respective shows.

The author covers the first tier talkers followed by the second and third tier talkers. It was interesting, as I had never heard of some of the individuals highlighted. Finally, the author finishes the book with a discussion of progressive talk radio, the Fairness Doctrine and what progressives can do to fight back against the conservative overload found on the radio today.

This book was an easy read that identified who was who and what they believe. If you follow progressive web sites then you most likely know most of the information in the book. If, however, you are like me and do not spend much time on the web this will be enlightening. A recommended read if you are a progressive or centrist (like me) who is sick of the bile spilled onto the airwaves on a daily basis.
