In effect, the United States has chosen to willfully and unilaterally disarm itself in the war on terror. I have found this book interesting. Jose Rodriguez is an unapologetic advocate for lawful use of what some folks might consider "rough" measures to gain information from those who would attack our nation's citizens and injure or kill as many as possible. He provides substantive information detailing (as much as national security permits) methods and results from the efforts of those ordered to obtain HUMIT (human intelligence) only to find judgement passed in hindsight by all too often armchair critics. As anyone knows who has been tasked with protecting innocent people from the intent and actions of very evil people, there is never a pretty path to success. That said, I am genuinely grateful to the men and women who undertake difficult tasks in our behalf. It's an interesting read.

Mr Rodriguez's account of his 30 years in covert assignments is straightforward, verifiable and has the unmistakable ring of of truth. To operate with ethics and efficacy in narco trafficking and ideological fanaticism is no small challenge. The sincerity and commitment of Jose and many colleagues will illuminate and inspire objective readers

This book should be required reading prior for all who use a microphone or soapbox in judgement

This was an excellent read. This book kept me intrigued from page one. The author does a great job of explaining things that he can’t explain, if you under my meaning. I don’t believe any of these terrorists were “tortured”. Torture is having bones broken, getting cut, raping someone and many other horrors I can think of just to get intel. Or just for fun. I am glad he sets the record straight. I hope this book is read by all Americans so they can stop accusing our intelligence community of doing things that just weren’t done. I hope he writes another book.

This book is a significant contribution to understanding the intelligence gathering after 911 and its necessity. Well written, scholarly presentation of the case for and justification of EITs.
If you love American you will respect the contributions of the author of this book to decimating Al-Qaeda's leadership and killing Osama Bin Laden.

Rodriguez reveals an amazing story of life in the CIA. His testimony clarifies the politics and the decisions surrounding 'waterboarding' and cements one fundamental truth about America. We are the most compassionate country in world history, even when we need to take hard measures to protect our people. Don't believe the myth that is the conventional wisdom about how America tortured prisoners. Read the book, and you'll understand the truth. And, you'll probably walk away very concerned about our future.

I choose this book because of the inside information, for the dedication of people like Mr. Rodriguez to protect our country. Beside he is from that little island that we love so much. Also coming from a family that have served in the military, I recognize the value of protecting it. Great book, will pass it on to my kids. Thanks one more time Mr Rodriguez may God bless you and your family.

Very educating - describes differences between Intelligence agencies stands regarding specifically 'getting intel to PREVENT terrorism' CIA vs 'looking to make a CONVICTION of a terrorist' FBI. I commend this officer for taking a stand and true felt affects of dealing with combating missions of the CIA vs FBI well done
Jose Rodriguez and Bill Harlow have written a very readable account of a CIA career that best illustrates the constant tension that exists in the US Government between the "doers" and the bureaucrats and politicians. Rodriguez protected the identities of the various interrogators when he destroyed the video tapes of the interrogation of terrorist suspects.

Balance the use of aerial drones by the current administration against the enhanced interrogation techniques employed in the few years after 9/11/2001... The terrorists and the people who happen to be in their proximity would all prefer water boarding to the rain of death from drone launched Hellfire missiles.

The latest second guessing and entirely political report prepared and issued by the Senator Diane Feinstein and the Democrat staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee (Dec 2014) stands in sharp contrast to the fidelity demonstrated by Rodriguez and his fellow CIA officers.

Thank You!
