Sex, Gender, and Sexuality is head and shoulders above all of the other texts I have used.

Sex, Gender, and Sexuality is head and shoulders above all of the other texts I have used. It addresses race, power, privilege, and inequality in a way that actually shows how society operates. Abby L. Ferber is Professor of Sociology and Women's Studies, and Director of the Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Kimberly Holcomb has her MA in Sociology with an interest in gender, sexuality, privilege, and intersectionality. Interest in gender and sexual identity has soared in recent years, sparking lively discussions both inside and outside of the classroom. Sex, Gender, and Sexuality: The New Basics brings together many of the vibrant voices in this ongoing dialogue, constructing a compelling new model for making sense of gender and sexuality. As it bridges the study of these topics, this dynamic anthology provides a thorough examination of their various interconnections and intersections. Working from an accessible, incisive framework, editors Abby L. Ferber, Kimberly Holcomb, and Tre Wentling raise many provocative questions, including * How does our understanding of the relationships between sex, gender, and sexuality vary across time and culture? * What are the relationships between transgender, transsexual, and queer? * How do class and race shape the experiences and expressions of gender and sexuality? To capture the broad spectrum of its subject, Sex, Gender, and Sexuality: The New Basics integrates a variety of selections, including first-person accounts and narratives, poems, theoretical analyses, and critiques of existing research. In addition, the editors have created a unique glossary, which provides current definitions of both basic and cutting-edge terms. An invaluable resource for both students and instructors in this constantly evolving field, this collection of key concepts familiarizes readers with the latest developments in research and vocabulary. Ideal for courses in sociology and women's studies, Sex, Gender, and Sexuality: The New Basics introduces students to the exciting new research that will shape the ways in which we understand sex, gender, and sexuality--as well as the complex and shifting relationships among these categories.

Excessively wordy and inaccessible for average students.

I am using this book to teach a course in a BA program - the students are enjoying it. It is cutting edge thinking and not filled with overwhelming academic verbiage and constructs.

The book got to my house after about 1.5 weeks, which kind of stressed me out because the school was starting in a few days.
However, the book is in excellent condition, and it is probably the best deal I could have gotten on this book.

First of all, thanks for the book. second is that there are too many marking and there no way to tell which one is my marking and it just hard to focus when there are so many marking.

I'm using this text this semester for an Intro to GLBTQ Studies course. That should tell you something about the slant of the included essays. There are many useful writings collected here, most of which fall comfortably under the rubric of 'gender studies.' The topics of intersexuality, transsexuality, and transgenderism are well represented. Some of the more traditional women's studies topics and authors are missing which makes the text of limited use for introductory women's studies courses. But a good read nonetheless. I'll be interested to see what my students make of it.
