This paper is part of a study which aims to identify the characteristics of the groups involved in collective practices of development. The areas from which these groups are originated maintain sometimes tense or even confrontational relationships with the central state. The groups are either ethnic or religious minorities or live in peripheral regions remote from the central powers.
In addition, the paper discusses expectations on future migration flows and the policy options of immigration countries for dealing with these flows. Keywords: Immigration, European labor markets, Immigration policy.
The economic literature on international migration interests policymakers as well as academics throughout the social sciences. These volumes, the first of a new subseries in the Handbooks in Economics, describe and analyze scholarship created since the inception of serious attention began in the late 1970s.
