I liked this set, however, it proceeds much too fast for the average learner. I lived in Nepal off and on for a year, so I had some basic Nepali skills. This set goes from zero to sixty, without enough coaching. Even the CD's progress very fast. I know it is up to the individual to learn at their own speed, but there should be more practical language skills included to get a feel (or ear) for Nepali. This set insists on learning written Nepali before really getting the sound of it. I think the Writers/Producers of this set; having already mastered the language, forget how an interested but non-scholarly person learns.
I hope this is not their end-game and that they produce another for the rest of us.

This book is great for the person willing to take their time and put in the effort to learning Nepali. Before purchasing this book, I could already recognize the devanagari characters and had a rudimentary vocabulary. So far this book is very thorough, and it takes time to get through it - I have had the book 9 months and am only on chapter 4. I feel that when I complete this book, I will have a good handle on reading, writing, speaking, and understanding conversational Nepali.

I'm sure there's lots of good information in this course, but it is set forth in an extremely difficult to use manner. There are no pauses on the CD for the student to repeat the information he is trying to learn. I am disappointed and also bummed out because no other course exists.

I just browsed through the books and looks like a good book, but it does not have all the alphabets. Still a good book for beginners.

This is one of the only Nepali course book's I own, since it's very hard to find any kind of books for Nepali. Although this book isn't perfect, it is definitely a good choice if you want to learn or if you are interested in Nepali. It is set up like every traditional Teach Yourself, it starts the chapter with a dialogue and then goes on to vocabulary and grammar. The audio CD's are great to actually hear the language and although the quality of the audio is bad, it is still useable. I can't really comment on the script lessons because I already knew how to read Devanagari before starting this book. I think if you really want to learn Nepali this is a good choice, it will give you a good basis for the language. I think there is an updated version of this book but I haven't used it so I'm not sure if it's better or not.

Finding resources for under-studied languages like Nepali is extremely difficult. It's a shame that this is one of the few books out there that teaches Nepali.

I don't like the organization of the book. It doesn't teach you vocabulary, grammar, or phrases in a logical order.

Learning the script was difficult since the book doesn't contain very much information on how to do so.

This book should be used with another book about Nepali. But I have to warn you that the Nepali words aren't always transliterated the same way in two books.

Book cam on time brand new but recycle material. This book is written by a professor who has very strong back ground both English and Nepali literature.I am Nepali and I bought this book for my dearly wife who's mother tongue is not Nepali. Now with help of this book she is learning Nepali faster than I thought.
