I think the material in this is pretty good. I've lived in Japan and the usage is natural. I was glad to see them provide some sentence structure explaination and rules. That can be confusing for beginners. The biggest drawback to this is it is annoying. One of the three students acts like a 6 hour retardate and after the first lesson you wish you could reach through your ipod and strangle her. I can understand them wanting to present the material with moments of mistakes to help students catch up and learn from mistakes, but the woman's voice is meek, feeble, and grating in its uncertainty and mock "I'm a a slow learner."

So, if you are someone that wants to learn and can handle taking classes with a moron, then give it a try. But, if you are the kind of student that "gets it" and likes to move along smoothly and gets annoyed sitting in a class with that one student that just doesn't seem to get it, then this is not for you. To me, that's the big make it or break it recommendation for me. The material is fine, the method is fine, the teacher is fine, 1 out of the 3 voice students distracts you from learning.

I've tried a few audio lessons and this one is by far my favorite. It hits all the grammatical points and progresses through what I consider to be the essentials at a good pace.

What sets this apart from other lessons is how casual it is. I actually enjoy listening to this and rarely felt mentally taxed. It moves at my pace, and the conversation is friendly and sometimes pretty funny.

I agree with the other reviewer that the one "slow student" can be a little annoying because her act is transparent, but I appreciate her inclusion and that she keeps things slow enough for me to keep up with without trying.

Positives:
1. It is mildly entertaining in small doses.

Negatives:
1. Around 80 % recording is of an Englishwoman who has appalling Japanese pronunciation.
2. The fake student in the course is irritating.
3. The native Japanese speakers voices occupy less that 10% of the audio and when they do speak, they are talked over.

I would recommend against buying this.
