The book has struck me to not only a beautiful narrative of how the author started her mission journey, her struggles, sucess and her return, but it has also challenged me to think about God's mighty work in a person. The book has struck me to not only a beautiful narrative of how the author started her mission journey, her struggles, sucess and her return, but it has also challenged me to think about God's mighty work in a person. We are merely vessels used by Him in partnership for His glorious plan. A book to read if one wants another perspective of missions.

Most missionary biographies or autobiographies tell fantastic stories; this is true of this book by Isobel Kuhn. However, Isobel takes it a step further by revealing the depths of her spiritual struggles in determining what God would have her do in certain situations. From them she supplies lessons for her readers. She also shows her resolve in pursuing what she believes is God's way even if her mission leaders disagree. This a story of God's work through Isobel Kuhn. The warfare is not only spiritual it is sometimes physical as when Japan invaded China in 1937. Satan doesn't give up territory easily and spiritual battles abound in this stirring book. It ends with Isobel Kuhn's final victory, her death from cancer.

Although this book was written almost 50 years ago, the wisdom is timeless. Isobel Kuhn writes about her most difficult and challenging experiences, and the lessons learned as a missionary in rural China. She saw every challenge, and difficult situation as an opportunity to grow, to understand how God was working in the most difficult circumstances. She is very honest about her struggles, but at the same time joyful and victorious.

This little book has touched my life so much and encouraged me tremendously in my walk with Christ. One of the very best missionary autobiographies I have ever read!! And I plan on reading it again and again.

I was encouraged to read this by an older woman that I respect, and it is a wonderful read!!! Isobel tells of her battles as a missionary in simple terms and easy to read chapters. I have been challenged and encouraged as I read through this book. I would highly recommend it!

Deeply personal, rich in insight! Kuhn traces a missionary's journey from humble beginnings through soul wrenching sorrow. Enough for the elementary and satisfying for the discerning.

I'm so glad to be blessed enough to have run across this book. This book will change your life and how you look at your journey on this earth. Isabel Kuhn gives a detailed account of how The Lord showed himself in every chapter of her life and the end is one of the greatest accounts I've ever read on a Christian happily approaching death and seeing it as just the beginning of something greater. Read this book if you never read anything else.

I love her writing style and the little nuggets of truth Isobel reveals in between her writings. A good read for missionaries and non missionaries alike.
This is a book I read many years ago, and loved it then. I was afraid that it was totally out of print or circulation when I recently wanted to read it again. To my great surprise I found it available on Amazon, both in print and available for Kindle. This is a life changing book, written in such an intimate, personal way, that the reader feels drawn into Mrs. Kuch's experiences and relationship with God. It is life changing, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be encouraged in God's faithfullness in the midst of dire circumstances.
