This story starts in Boston, prior to the start of the Revolution, yet the insurrections, had begun. I love Pierce, who is from Scotland, the reason, I deducted one star, is, he should be addressed as Lord Pierce, his father was an Earl, he is still in line to inhereit, unless his older brother has a son. Then we have Portia, strong minded, acts before she thinks it through. She finds her Mother, that she never knew, in a British Admiral's home, his daughter, who he keeps drugged, for some nefarious reason. Very interesting.
I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

I rush to read this author, but this book did not measure up to other works in plot lines. Many overused scenarios such as female wearing boy's clothing raising the male libido. Also, my pet peeve of typos: dropped letters in words or missing words in a sentence. C'mon McGoldricks, you do far better than this offering.

These Arthur’s always do a great job! Lots of adventure and romance and interesting characters interwoven prior to the revolutionary period in American history. Pierce Pennington the Hero tries his best to avoid the heroine Portia but their paths cross over and their lives become intertwined. Enjoyed the development of the characters Mary Higgins, her employer and her Mom Helena.

Great story! The innocence of the girl and her l lot in her life as just being a tutor for others children, never completely fitting in, then she thinks she finds her mother and the story takes off. The characters compliment one another.

This was the fourth book that I have read by the husband and wife team writing under the name of May McGoldrick. I enjoyed all four and would give 5 STARS to Borrowed Dreams, The Promise, Captured Dreams and Dreams of Destiny. The authors write an excellent story with some history thrown in which makes the stories very believable. They show the good and the evil that exists in this world and the love that conquers the evil. I will read more from these authors. They remind me of another husband and wife team-Sergeanne Golon who wrote the Series beginning with Angelique which I also loved. When Serge died, it was never quite the same even though Anne gallantly kept writing. Read these four as a series and begin with The Promise even though it is in a different series.

There is a systemic problem in romance novels that sell sexual assault as romance. It makes me angry so I filter romance books heavily. The first of this trilogy was wonderful! The story was interesting, the characters lovable, and the writing good. The first kiss was passionate, but the woman was kissing a cripple with friends within shouting distance (ie no fear). I was so excited to read the second book! I don't find reading rape fun or romantic. Another author to filter out :(

This story about Pierce Pennington, the middle son and Portia Edwards as they meet in Boston. Another captivating novel by the McGordrick duo. Great ending.
This was the second of three books regarding the Penningtons. A very good read with interesting characters and great historical references
