Forbidden Love by Karen Robards was everything the title promised. Ms Robards is such an amazing story teller that she snares the reader with ease into feeling for the characters she portrays. Her love scenes are explicit, regular panty wetters, but never vulgar. There are several touching scenes about the feelings of the orphaned young woman toward her guardian and the temptation she creates for him. Ms. Robards has a true talent to make the reader fall in love with the bad boy and to turn him into the good person he's been underneath it all along. Reviewed by Heide Katros, Winter Haven News,FL

Karen Robards' historical romances always tell a great, lusty story. This one grabbed my attention and would not let me go. Though no date is given it seemed to be roughly set in the Regency era, and while there were some errors in forms of address and clothing color choices (a mauve "coming out" gown when it would have been white, and reference to a white wedding gown when it would have been a color), the story still gets full marks from me because these did not distract from what was a well-written, captivating story I could not put down.

Seduced by her guardian, Justin, Earl of Weston, when she was 17 while at his estate in Ireland, Megan Kindead is made to pay the price. And oh how she pays. Though Justin was very aware his behavior was despicable, he "couldn't help himself" and ruined her just the same. And, in return, the young innocent fell in love. Of course, he forgot to tell her one thing: he could not marry her as he was already married. Finding she is pregnant, Megan knows to give her child a name, she must wed and soon.

Megan is a high-spirited young woman with courage and convictions. I loved her. Justin was an otherwise honorable nobleman who was so obsessed with his ward. He would have her no matter the consequences, even making her his whore when he could not make her his wife.

It's a bodice ripper, oh yes, it is. And a very good one. Originally published in 1983 (the original cover which has so much more emotion), it is just as good today. The emotions are at times subtle, at times violent, but in all, believable; and the tension is non-stop. Robards is simply a master of this sort of romance and I count myself among her many fans.

Karen Robards never fails to deliver a gripping and emotional tale and Forbidden Love is proof. While I like the new trends in writing styles... every once in awhile I want to read a good ole bodice ripper. Forbidden Love is a classic in every way. Brooding Alfa male vs Rebellious Virgin, he is stunningly handsome and she is breathtaking beautiful, and of course lots of steamy love scenes (literally fogged up my glasses). Add seaside mansions, cliffs, tortured lovers...yep! Classic! What makes this book exceptional is the unexpected twists in the story (ex: Justin is married). This book is not for everyone but if you like this style of writing you will love this story. I loved it and have it listed in my top 10 all time favorite historical romances (which is high praise in my 35+ years of reading them)

There is no way that this book was written in 2014. I would bet money that it was written quite some time ago. It was not unusual 15 years ago for romance novels to be written about very young girls. I think it is worth mentioning that given the period in time that the story takes place, it was pretty commonplace for a girl to be married or betrothed by the time she was 17. Reading it from a modern perspective it does seem like child abuse, taken in context, it is not. I would have to agree that the hero does come across as something of a brute, but then some men to react that way when they are hurt. Thankfully we are usually smart enough to get away from them. All in all it was a very readable story if one can put aside our modern perspective. Karen Robards is one of my favorite writers and this is obviously one of her very early works.

London born actor/writer James Clamp nicely performs this 10 hour audio book. There are relatively few characters which helps distinguish each with a distinct voice. James Clamp is an Award Winning young British Voice Over Actor. He collected his first Earphone Award in January 2011.

As other reviewer have noted, there is a disturbing element to this book that doesn't usually pop up in romances. The earliest publish date I found for this book was 1994, which might explain it a bit. Rather criticize the merits of this particular book, which I did not hate, I will say that I've enjoyed other books by Karen Robards more.
godlike
Several reviewers said the H was abusive but I didn't see that at all. He was frustrated and conflicted and his own actions drove him over the edge but he treated her pretty well. Of course there has to be some angst or there isn't a story. But this man was far from a monster. The man isn't always at fault in a failed marriage - he deserved a second chance at love. I thought it was a good story.

I enjoyed this book very much. The storyline was exceptionally written and the romance between the hero and heroine was exciting and beautifully written. I enjoy this author's style of writing and the way she develops a story using many secondary characters and lots of action and romance.
Definitely a five star rating once again for a very good book.
I have enjoyed all of the historical romance stories that Karen has written and I hope she will continue to write them in the future.
Good read. Almost cried. Glad the ending was happy for both h&h. Can't wait to read more from this author.
