The Ylem ebook

by Tatiana Vila

When not writing, glued to her husband, Mr. Keyboard, or reading books into oblivion, Tatiana Vila can be found watching tacky reality shows, singing in the shower, eating way too many Wonka candies, and fantasizing about her next book. Her motto: let the mind run wild.

I didn't love it but I definitely didn't hate it either.

The book seemed sort of mundane during the first half - it gave you important information and brought up alot of questions but as the questions added up - none were answered.

The last 1/4 of the book had me hooked though and made my struggling through the first half worth it. Things started to make more sense and there was a lot of action. That is until the disappointment that Tristan throws on Kalista at the end, it seemed sudden and without reason.

One thing I wished for was a little clearer explanation of the Ylem and why it was so important. I am hoping that the second book will explain some of this and let us know why the insurgents are going to so much trouble to get it.

All that said, I am looking forward to continuing with this trilogy to answer those questions I still have.

I bought this book last night and completed reading it last night. I was completely pulled into the world and just had to know what the next page would bring to the story. I have to admit that part of the reason I finished the book so quickly was because I skimmed over some parts. There are portions of the book in which the author is building back story, developing characters and kind of creating a connection between everyone, which is fantastic, but some parts came with a little too much detail. I am beyond excited to read the next installment in this series(?). The characters are interesting without being over the top quirky AND she actually gives reasons for some of their quirks/insecurities, which makes it easy to relate to them.

I only gave a 4 star review because I did feel the need to skim over parts.

I was so emotionally caught up in this book I found it really hard to withdraw from it. The characters (all of them) make such an impact in the story whether it was for good or evil. Tatiana definitely has an incredeble talent for story weaving and I was so invested in the characters it brought out extreme emotions such as wanting to reach into the book and shake someone silly or scream in frustration or melt with desire or weep because my heart broke for a certain character that had such a rough life. I haven't read a book that did that to me and I was so disappointed at the end when I knew I had to wait like, forever (2012) for the next one!!! I am defintely a HUGE fan and will be purchasing anything Tatiana throws at me. Happy reading!!!

I will say upfront, I did like the book. I only gave four stars because I felt (obviously others felt differently) the story moved really slow at first, I got a little bored with all the "set-up" but once things began to be explained...the story got very entertaining, I was hooked and wondering about the next book.

Sometimes you read a book that starts out a little slow and you give up and don't finish it, don't do that with this book! Things will begin to be explained and the pace will pick up about half way through and while it was easy to get a little frustrated with the main character Kalista, her reasons for her "fears" (I don't want to be too specific and spoil the story) become clear.

I will definitley be purchasing the next books and I am glad I made myself keep reading the book.

I saw that there have been mixed reviews about this but I really liked The Ylem. I agree that in the beginning the story was a bit choppy and it took a long time to get going, but I think some of the best books are written that way. I don't like to be given everything in the beginning. By halfway I was invested and I thought having the story told from Kalista and Caleb was interesting. About the only thing I didn't buy was that Kalista was heartbroken. It wasn't a deal breaker for me and I'll be getting the next one when it's out.

I rated it a 4 because it kept me interested, but it really resembled Twilight. I also came across several typos.

Loved the book it has great characters in it. I can't wait to read more. This book has an amazing storyline. This is a must read. You'll be glad you did.
I really enjoyed this book. My only complaint were the grammatical errors throughout that continually had me re-reading sentences because they made no sense otherwise. Looking forward to the 2nd installment!
