If you've purchased a TI-89 and are having a bit of difficulty in understanding the calculator's accompanying manual, then this book is for you. This review assumes you have purchased the book and its CD-ROM and installed the programs on the CD in your TI-89. A relatively simple task. This book is suitable for people studying 1st semester calculus to advanced calculus. The manual is divided into two sections. The first section covers using the TI-89 with many examples that are missing from the TI-89's manual. It not only shows you actual pictures of the calculator's screen, but gives examples of how to use these functions in such a way that after a few hours of exploration, you'll be saying to yourself, "Why didn't TI explain it this way?" You'll find solving systems of equations ie matrices, a snap. You'll be differentiating and/or integrating functions in no time at all. The second part concerns the 16 programs downloaded from the accompanying CD-ROM to your calculator. These programs range from the definition of a derivative to Lagrange Multipliers and Fourier Series as well as solving Differential Equations. There is something here for everyone. If you need help learning to use your TI-89 effectively, then, as I said before, this book w/ CD-ROM, is for you. PS the price is right!

What can I say. The functions and programs on the disk are great. The book that accompanies it is even greater. I first used a few of the inverse reciprocal functions for graphing. One of them helped the math dept. head at my school out with graphing a certain function. The implicit differentiation program is currently helping me check my answers in my calc class. It's an awesome tool. I recommend this book + disk to anyone who wants to delve deeper into math and wants to ask why and how to solve it on their calculator.

This book is a must have for calculus students that have the TI-89 or -92plus! Instead of fumbling through the owner's manual (what a joke) trying to figure out how to do calculus on the calculator, this book gives you step by step instructions on how to do it in terms you can understand. It also comes with a disk of programs you can download onto your calculator that are so good it is almost like cheating! Also, it helps you understand the math you are doing instead of just telling you what to type.

This book will help you with most of the steps that you need to be familiar with when using your TI calculator. All the examples have step-by-step instructions--just like it should be. All the books by these authors are straight forward and to the point--which is to improve your understanding of your calculator and that of the subject matter.There are no other books being published that address the needs of the advanced math student like GILMAR's.

It is well-written and explains calculus concepts as well as the subtlties of the TI-92. The accompanying CD is worth twice the cost of the book--many programs that really help me in class. I highly recommend this one!
