Microscopy using polarized light in which phenomena due to the preferential orientation of optical properties with respect to the vibration plane. Microscopy using polarized light in which phenomena due to the preferential orientation of optical properties with respect to the vibration plane of the polarized light are made visible and correlated parameters are made measurable. They can be equally well used in microscopy or macroscopy

The Sorbonne and Institut d’Optique, Paris, France. They can be equally well used in microscopy or macroscopy. These instruments can be used, by means of adequate modifications, without any collimation. In the latter case they are extremely luminous. They are of particular interest in microscopy where they permit the measure of refractive indexes and of thicknesses of small details in preparations. We shall describe a very simple differential observation method which places in evidence the gradient of the optical path. The sensitivity of the method depends on the width of the object.

Polarized light microscopy can mean any of a number of optical microscopy techniques involving polarized light. Simple techniques include illumination of the sample with polarized light. Directly transmitted light can, optionally, be blocked with a polariser orientated at 90 degrees to the illumination. More complex microscopy techniques which take advantage of polarized light include differential interference contrast microscopy and interference reflection microscopy.

Since its invention, light microscopy has been evolving, and nowadays, a wide .

By applying this measurement procedure with and without a sample, we subtracted signal noise, whose origin is illumination inhomogeneity, and other imperfections of the optical elements. M.
