Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Start by marking Someone to Watch Over Me (Bow Street Runners, as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. Perhaps because this is the first book in the Bow Street Runners series, it didn’t grab me quite the way her Wallflower series did. I didn’t find the characters quite as charismatic as those in her other books.

Like the other Bow Street Runners who worked under the direction of Sir Ross Cannon, Grant had become so. .He dropped his coat to the floor and bent over Vivien's still form. Intent on removing her clothes as quickly as possible, he tugged at the front of her gown.

Like the other Bow Street Runners who worked under the direction of Sir Ross Cannon, Grant had become so immersed in the world of darkness that he sometimes questioned how much difference there was between himself and the criminals he pursued. Mrs. Buttons had once told Grant of her hopes that he would someday step into the light of Christian truth. A curse escaped his lips as the buttons and hooks remained obstinately entrenched in the shrunken wet wool.

He's also a powerful member of the Bow Street Runners, and when he's called to the waterfront late one night to investigate a drowning victim, Grant is stunned to recognize the face of Vivien Rose Duvall, a well-known woman of the night. He's even more startled when he realizes that she's alive. With no one to care for her, Grant carries Vivien to his home and revives her, only to learn that she is suffering from amnesia. Vivien hesitantly accepts her handsome rescuer's claim that she is his mistress, despite her misgivings about her true identity.

The Bow Street Runner series (this book, Lady Sophia's Lover, and Worth Any Price) are all very interesting . Thus the stage is set for this intriguing romance. Someone to Watch Over Me is a book with a driving plot that does not drag for a single page

The Bow Street Runner series (this book, Lady Sophia's Lover, and Worth Any Price) are all very interesting books, and I loved them all. However, I think that the story line in this book is far more intriguing than that of the others. Grant Morgan makes a truly spectacular hero in this book. Someone to Watch Over Me is a book with a driving plot that does not drag for a single page. It is fascinating as we watch Grant gradually evolve from the famous street hardened and cynical Bow Runner to a man of compassion and love. Of course, Grant is not as hard as he would like to believe.

Старинная литература: Прочее. How long had this poor woman been left in the bitter cold while the waterman had sent for a Bow Street Runner to investigate? Her chances of survival would have been far greater had she been taken care of immediately. As it was, her odds weren't good. He flipped the woman over and lifted her head to his knee, her long hair soaking his trousers. Her skin was ashen in the murky light, and there was a swelling lump on the side of her head. Even so, the delicate, distinctive features were recognizable.

A temptingly beautiful woman awakens in a stranger's bed, rescued from the icy waters of the Thames, her memory gone. Told that she is Vivien Rose Duvall, one of London's most scandalous beauties, she finds herself under the protection of enigmatic, charming Grant Morgan. Her life is in his hands. Deep in her heart she knows he has mistaken her for someone else. As one of London's most eligible and unattainable catches, Grant Morgan is a man who has known every kind of woman. And the one in his arms now seems so innocent, so vulnerable, that he can't help but be enchanted. And as his love for this mysterious beauty grows, he's determined to unravel the secrets of her past and discover the truth - no matter what.

The Bow Street Runner series is quite excellent and this is the first book in series. You could skip it quite easily, but it does give you a nice sense of the universe the novels are set in before you move on to the other two much better books in this series.

I won't go into the plot - others have that covered quite well. I'll admit the book is entertaining and kept me flipping through the pages, but my problems with this book stem from characters I don't quite find likeable. Sir Grant is kind of a jerk and it's obvious from the beginning. He never really makes enough personal changes for me in the book to become the kind of hero I like reading about. As with any book where the heroine has amnesia for almost the entire novel, there's not exactly a ton of personality there to find likeable int he first place!

I also feel like the pacing of this book is a bit off - the ending drags on for pages and left me feeling fairly unsatisfied.

Overall, it's not a bad book necessarily, but I suppose I hold it to a higher standard since I find Lisa Kleypas to be one of the best romance authors out there. If you're like me and refuse to let no stone go unturned when you find an author you like, go ahead and give this one a shot. If you're wanting to read the other Bow Street Runner novels and find yourself struggling to get into this book - just skip it and move on. The other two books are great!

I read way too much, sadly to the point it is impacting my life. I am getting too little sleep and after many months of feeling neglected my husband is starting to voice complaints at the lack of attention. Therefore to keep my 27 plus years of marriage a good one I am trying to reduce the amount that I read. Therefore in effort to slow down the amount that I am reading, I am only allowing myself to read paperback books as opposed to the electronic versions during the work week. Even though I prefer contemporary romances I find that there are more paperback historical romance books that fit my personal criteria that then any other type. Why am I tell you all of this? Really it is to give a disclaimer. My knowledge about history is lacking and therefore when I review historical romance books I am not going to comment on how historically accurate the book is. I just will not nor would someone want me too.

For the most part I enjoyed reading this story that is a mix of romance, drama and mystery. While he sometimes acts like a jerk I liked that the Grant is a jealous and possessive alpha hero who falls hard and fast for the heroine. While I occasionally found the heroine annoying I didn't dislike her. While they come later in the story there are hot sexy times. This is a forced seduction story and so if that bothers you then I suggest skipping this story. It was not a mystery to me as to why the heroine had a personality transplant and probably is not to the majority of the readers either. The whodunit is not known but much later in the book when the readers are given enough information

NOT her best work. "hero" is an unlikeable ~alpha~ who, while supposedly an accomplished detective, reacts emotionally to any and all situations instead of analyzing. he sulks and broods his way through the book before he is suddenly overwhelmed by his love for the heroine. the heroine, meanwhile, is so overwhelmed by the amnesia and attempts on her life she has barely any opportunity to demonstrate a personality. I do think she had one, but the book just didn't have the scope necessary. We learn the most about her personality -- fears, hopes, capabilities under stress -- in the very last quarter.

Also, this seems to be very haphazardly edited. There are multiple instances of the word "premise" being used instead of "chemise" in a single scene. A copy editor should have caught that.

Normally I love books by this author but this one misses the mark by a mile for me. The characters’ physical descriptions seem more appropriate for an adult molesting a child rather than describing two adults. The hero is described as an I-love-you-but-I-hate-you kind of guy, that is, a person who in real life would become controlling and physically abusive. Nor are his actions to the contrary. He is controlling and possessive and won’t accept no or any constraints placed on his ability to act. The book essentially romanticizes an abusive relationship. While the abuse meted out is diverted to others, and the sexual demands override his partner’s noes to deliver orgasms, it is still abuse described as desired romance. This is not for me. And it is not helped by the virgin-whore dichotomy throughout. Disgusting.

I followed this series years ago and this was the one title in the series that I didn't get to read. I'm ecstatic that I got to read it and wasn't disappointed in the storyline. The novel got off to a gripping and suspenseful start with a body washing up on the banks of the river. What the hero, a Bow Street runner, modern day cop, thought was a corpse turned out to be his nemesis, a well-known London courtesan whom he disdains. Or is she really a courtesan? As the book unfolds and the heroine baffles the hero with her uncharacteristic behavior and personality, like the hero, I also began to doubt her true identity. The heat between them is immediate and unquenchable from the get-go, even though he's fighting his passion for her. The intimacy is all I could hope for in a romance. The mystery and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and the conclusion left me wishing the book had never ended. An astounding read that I recommend to romance lovers everywhere.
