Achieving that happiness won't be easy, though: to Prager, it requires a continuing process of counting your blessings and giving up any expectations that life is supposed to be wonderful. Can we decide to be satisfied with what we have?" he asks. A poor man who can make himself satisfied with his portion will be happier than a wealthy man who does not allow himself to be satisfied. This book exposes why Happiness is a moral choice and lists the barriers to it in a thoughtful way. I'm still reading and re-reading sections, but I'm glad it's on my Kindle and I'll likely sample some of his other books.

Prager maintains that insatiable human nature makes lasting happiness profoundly difficult to achieve but that nevertheless, it can be a reality. When happiness is treated with the same level of seriousness that people bring to life's other tasks, it becomes immediately more tangible and thus achievable.

This is the repair manual we should have been handed at birth. When you ask people abouttheir most cherished values in life, "happiness" is always at the top of the list. Happiness is an obligation–to yourself and to others. Not only do we have a right to be happy, we have an obligation to be happy. Our happiness has an effect on the lives of everyone around us–it provides them with a positive environment in which to thrive and to be happy themselves.

it is an easy read, contains much information and is helpful to understand people in a general way, and yourself in a much more moving way.. Working through life is constant work, developing and understanding each other and yourself...Trying to find that elusive happiness. When I finished the book, I kept looking at it, expecting more, it somehow did not seemed finished. I have returned to reread it, this time slower looking for the points that I know I missed or skimmed over. This is a book that contains wisdom, should be read slowing and with some thought. Maybe in my second reading I will find the "sudden ending" was not so sudden. Thank you, Mr. Prager, for all that you do to improve the world, one piece at a time.

Prager is Clarity personified. I've been enamored of his clear-thinking and enormous intellect for years, catching his radio show when I can.

For anyone challenged by "real life" -- someone you care about! This little volume offers thought-provoking concepts and fresh perspectives on what it means to be human and operate in a world where others don't always appreciate you, or act like you... and that means most everyone! Suggest you open the book and read whatever "speaks" to you at the time, as each "chapter" is self-contained. Then, when you are ready, start at page one and read all the way through as the author has organized his thoughts. You will gain a much deeper orientation to the material if you read this little book "both ways!"
Enjoy!

I am just about finished with reading this great book. Dennis Prager is one of my most favorite radio talk show hosts (12-3 weekdays on the Salem Radio Network). I could listen to him read the phone book and be glued to his presentation. This book is an easy read ..... I can just hear his voice
in every sentence. He makes so many excellent observations about "happiness" and "unhappiness" and how we ourselves determine how we will
deal with life's experiences. It is more how we react to them than allowing ourselves be negatively affected. So much "food for thought" in his book.

I love Dennis Prager and I love his outlook on life!!! You can only better your by listening to him on radio every week day and reading his books! Always positive, always a delight and I learn more and more about myself and how to handle situations! I am a HUGE admirer and always tell my friends to listen to him during the week!! His happiness hour is so helpful and the people that call in help me more in understanding how to take complex individuals of all sorts and open my mind to dealing with and liking many of them!! Dennis is an amazing man!!!!!!

It's Dennis Prager in all his glory and wisdom. Truly life changing if you genuinely are looking for some guidance and advice on what true happiness is. My wife is now reading it based on what she has seen in me since i read and actively focus on my own happiness.

I love this writer! He has a way of taking complex themes and distilling them to their essence. He often says he values "clarity over agreement," and in this he succeeds brilliantly. The idea that happiness is a choice goes at least back to Abraham Lincoln, but the argument that we actually have a responsibility toward those around us to be as happy as we can (!) is a take on the topic I have heard nowhere else. As explained by Prager, his argument is compelling. An excellent book to read and pass around to anyone who suffers from self-pity.
This book is an excellent read and offers the reader practical step-by-step information in all aspects of ones life to choose happiness. The book offers a clear outline and examples of how important happiness is for oneself, the family, friends and, more importantly, for the culture at large. I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed learning the distinctions between "fun" and "happiness." I too believe that we have a moral obligation to bring more happiness to our experience of life. Dennis Prager is a very thoughtful and generous author to give us this important guide to improving our lives.
