I have been fly fishing, off and on, since I was about 15 years old. Never have been trout fishing, and have always been pan fish (bream) and some bass fishing.

However, I have started really trying to go after some fairly large bass in my community lakes and maybe start some river fishing for them. So, I ordered the book hoping to get some good advice. Got that and more. Really good book that covers the basics as well as letting you have the use of his experience.

Would easily recommend this.

The line paid out smoothly through the guides, pulling the leader and fly forward to settle gently on the pond. Moments later the three pounds of large mouth bass had his breakfast and the fisherman a good morning tug of war. Scenes like this one come to mind as would be fly fisherman read L.L. I was told about this book by a friend, it came highly recommended. After getting 1/3 of the way through I was very happy with it. Lots of information, great pictures (hand sketched). I would highly recommend to anyone who is getting into fly fishing for pan fish or bass. Amazon shipped it fast and when received it looked as if it had come right off of the printing press.

This is a very informative book.. BUT.. unless you have read any other books on fly fishing such as trout techniques.. then this book has no new information for you.. basically they just took anything they said for trout fishing and replaced "trout" with "bass".. but for a whole whoppin' 0.01 i really couldn't go wrong in investing in this book...

Pros: Great and informative book IF this is your first book on fly fishing.. Good book for a first timer.. LL Bean breaks it down well for the uninformed

Cons: Recycled knowledge from any trout techniques book you may own or have read.. Nothing new for those who have been fly fishing for some time

I already had this book,as a present from a friend. I enjoyed it so much and learned a lot about the differences between trout and bass fly fishing that I bought this copy for another good friend. I would recommend this to anyone wishing to get more knowledge and hopefully skills related to fly-fishing for bass. Dave Whitlock never disappoints.

I thought this book provided an excellent overview of everything you need to approach and enjoy fishing for bass with a fly. I thought the section on the different types of bass flies, and their applications was particularly useful. If you are looking for books on this subject, I would grab this book and Harry Murray's book on the same subject. I benefited from both. And I consider myself to be a beginner, so I respectfully disagree with others who found the book to be too advanced for those starting in the sport.
being a beginner and not knowing anything about fly fishing, I thought this was a great book to start with because it covered it all.
