The modern International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), located in Canastota, New York, United States, honors boxers, trainers and other contributors to the sport worldwide. Inductees are selected by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America. The IBHOF started as a 1990 initiative by Ed Brophy to honor Canastota's world boxing champions, Carmen Basilio and Basilio's nephew, Billy Backus; the village of Canastota inaugurated the new museum, which showcases boxing's rich history.

Canastota has a rich boxing heritage, which makes it an ideal home for the International Boxing Hall of Fame. This small central New York town (population: 5,000) is located about twenty miles east of Syracuse on the New York State Thruway. In 1895, the first projection of a motion picture film, with a device known as the Biograph, took place in Canastota. Appropriately, the film showed boxers sparring. The book gets bigger and better each year but there still are mistakes which never get corrected such as on Luis Rodriguez' record where it shows his first fight with Bennie Briscoe being in San Juan when the fight actually took place at The Arena in Philadelphia. My major criticism--and this is shared by others--is that the book still does not include the complete records of many old-timers. For the book like this which is supposed to represent the be-all and end-all for Hall-of-Famers, you would think they would include the complete record of every inductee.

GREAT BOOK YOU SHOULD HAVE HANDY IN CASE YOU GET IN AN ARGUMENT WITH ONE OF THOSE 20 YEAR OLDS WHO THINK FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF ALL TIME. SHOWS HALL OF FAME FIGHTERS WITH THEIR RECORD, BIOS AND LIST OF EACH ENTRY'S KEY FIGHTS ALONG WITH THE DATES OF THOSE FIGHTS. EVEN INDICATES WHICH OPPONENTS WERE TOP 10 CONTENDERS OR HALL OF FAMERS. I SHUT QUITE A FEW MOUTHS WITH THIS BOOK AND EVERYONE WHO I SHOWED IT TO BEGGED ME TO LET THEM BORROW IT!

Great read and gives a lot of information on the champions. This does not have every known boxer in it, only champions and those inducted into the hall of fame.

If you are an addict for sports history, in this case, boxing, add this one to your shelf. There biographies of all the greats from every era along with a list of notable bouts. When you first get it, you won't be able to put it down.

Excellent reference manual for all boxing fans. From the bareknuckle pioneers to the moderns, the reader will get a valuable introduction to boxing history and its Hall Of Famers. My only real criticism is that I would have liked to have seen full records printed instead of partial. But at the same time I realize if they did that, the book would be so thick you wouldn't be able to lift it. Excellent overall.

Very informative. Each boxer profiled has a biography written about them. Most fighters complete records are listed as well. A great read for anyone who loves boxing and records and stats.
