A retired professor of earth sciences at Adelphi University in New York, Sirkin studied glaciated regions and coastal plains in the northeast United States, southeast Alaska, and coastal regions of western Mexico. In addition to the Block Island study, he was the author of "Eastern Long Island Geology," "Western Long Island Geology" and coauthor of "Earth History and Plate Tectonics.
