The Vicious Circle: Mystery and Crime Stories by Members of the Algonquin Round Table. It will be followed by The Algonquin Round Table'. As a huge Dorothy Parker fan whose interest extends to other members of the Algonquin Round Table I anxiously awaited, bought, and enjoyed reading the book. Of course I liked some of the pieces better than others; that inevitably happens with any collection of short stories and poems. A lot of the pieces were not previously published, so their enjoyment had the added element of discovery.

This book gives an interesting look at the time in which these stories were written. It was good to hear of The Algonquin Round Table in New York and those that frequented it. I hadn't heard of many of them. I thoroughly enjoyed the short stories and recommend the book. There is only one story featured by Dorothy Parker. I would have liked to read more from her.

Just a lot of fun. Takes one back to the '20s and the style is reminds me of the old pulp fiction magazines. A little light reading puncted with some humor.

I wasn't really sure what I would get when I ordered this book, but the many different authors included cinched it as a good buy.Yes,you should read this book,it is filled with so many clever and acid blurbs from a bygone era,yet upon reading you become immursed in it and the book really is timeless.

These stories may disappoint as mysteries, but they're all good and some of them are classic, like Lardner's "Haircut" and Dorothy Parker's "Big Blonde." The book's one drawback is its slimness: a mere twelve selections, some of them only five pages long -- and even at that, Perelman gets three selections and other authors get two. It's as if mysteries by Algonquin round table members were pretty thin on the ground. Good quotes, good introductions -- an excellent anthology that is over much too soon.

This is the first collection I've ever read by members of the Algonquin Round Table and I found them very good. Although I think "mystery" might be a stretch and "crime" not always accurate it is still a great collection of light fiction. Makes me want to see some more material by these members!
