The history of Lilian Jackson Braun is perhaps as exciting and mysterious as her novels. Between 1966 and 1968, she published three novels to critical acclaim: The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern, and The Cat Who Turned On and Off. In 1966, the New York Times labeled Braun, the new detective of the year. Then, for reasons unknown, the rising mystery author disappeared from the publishing scene. It wasn’t until 1986 that Berkley Publishing Group reintroduced Braun to the public with the publication of an original paperback, The Cat Who Saw Red.

Arch decoded it and laughed so hard that he choked and was sent into the hall for a drink of water. Forty years later, he still quaked with internal laughter whenever he saw someone with prominent dentition. And now, after all those years, Qwilleran had a cat who was interested in double-six—most of the time. That was the name of Nick's boat; did it mean that Koko wanted to go home? Or did the twelve pips signify the letter L? And if so, what did the letter L have to do with anything? Kao K'o Kung had some obscure ways of communicating.

The cat who came to breakfast. Now came the hard part: relocating two opinionated cats who disliked a change of address

The cat who came to breakfast. The cat who blew the whistle. The cat who said cheese. In Qwilleran’s opinion, the only upbeat feature was a cuckoo clock in the front hall, its crazy bird popping out and announcing the time with monotonous cheer. Now, approaching Black Creek, he planned his strategy. In Moose County, where everyone knew the make and model of everyone’s vehicle, his own five-year-old brown van was especially conspicuous. Now came the hard part: relocating two opinionated cats who disliked a change of address. His strategy would be one of stealth, carried out in three separate operations.

When a cabin cruiser mysteriously explodes in the marina of Breakfast Island, newspaper reporter Jim Qwilleran and his feline companions investigate shady happenings at the hot vacation spot. (Mystery).

Qwill and the kitties are back in the city. The Foundation has been tapped to save an historic building and Qwilleran is here to investigate. Is it a coincidence that the very apartment he's given to reside in as he does this was last occupied by a murder victim? One who was also trying to save the Casablanca? Jim doesn't know, but his mustache vibrates as Koko unearths the mystery.

Perfect little murder mystery for a Friday the 13th.

I love all "The Cat Who" books . I have the whole entire series and I have reread them more than once just because they are fun, enjoyable stories. Sometimes you just want a fun engaging story with out having to think every little thing through to figure out if that is what the author meant or was it something else that they meant. Long live Koko, Yum Yum, and Qwilleran!

I love these books (and I especially enjoy the WhisperSync audio book technology with them. The actor is wonderful!!!) but in this one, Jim Qwilleran was so negative about where he was and everyone he was with that I had a hard time enjoying it. He was in a resort, but did nothing but complain about the B&B where he was staying or the decor of the hotels. It was an odd downer, and, I thought, not really in keeping with the character's personality or the spirit of the books. I can't stress enough, however, how fun the audiobooks of "The Cat Who" series are, and note that if you buy the Kindle edition, you can get the audiobook at the huge discount. The combination of Kindle edition and audiobook is one of the best deals around.

At first, you think this is just a cutesy book about kittys...but think again. Ms Braun is a brilliant writer who takes you away to this small town and surrounds you with mystery and characters who you will " wonder what they are doing" long after the book is through. I am collecting everything she wrote and there are 29 or more books. She passed away recently and to know that no more Quilleran" books will ever be written, deeply saddens me. She has the ablility to make you part of the " family". My first one was given to me as a gift and I let it set thinking it was just a cutesy kitty book ,( which Im a big cat fancier) and it sat a good year before I was bored out of my mind and for lack of anything else to read, picked it up as a last resort...I WAS GLUED!!! then, went to the book store and bought as many of her " the cat who....." books as I can find. You wont be sorry. This is a wonderful get away and leaves you wanting tons more.

Love all of the Cat Who books. I have the entire set and have reread them several times. Qwill and the cats visit the new resort on Breakfast Island and the usual mayhem ensues. Koko of course, solves the mystery through his domino draws and leads to culprits who were creating problems and murders on the island.

Marvelous story. I love how Lilian Jackson Braun keeps her stories so well written, you feel like part of the same family. It is interesting how she has introduced a new female in this story who moved to Picax and will no-doubt give Polly a challenge.

This is book #11 in the continuing saga of Qwill, Koko, and Yum Yum, the characters in Lillian Jackson Braun's series of books, "The Cat Who..."series. In this book, they all leave Moose County for a break and move into the historic Casablanca apartments to look into investing in it's restoration. There, they meet a kooky bunch of characters who live there along with an elevator I would never set foot in. Qwill finds out an art dealer died in his very apartment and, once again, Koko the Siamese cat is on the case! Great fun.
I love all of Lilian Jackson Braun's Cat Who books and now have the full complement in paperback.. Had lent two of them to a friend last year and replaced them this spring through Amazon. Each book in the series seems better than the one before, maybe because I'm happy to see the wonderful characters return in the next issue.
