about this book: I began the Ginger Barnes Main Line mysteries after my husband became head of a very small private school. Since his academic background was not mine, I wrote from the perspective of a woman transplanted from the wrong side of the river into an unfamiliar social world. As a result, Gin is an irreverent, unpretentious, do-it-yourselfer with a penchant for solving whatever problem faces her–even a murder that threatens to ruin her husband's new livelihood and put her family out on the street

When her husband becomes head of strugglingBryn Derwyn Academy, Ginger Barnes learns that murder on the campus can kill aschool's reputation in a heartbeat. To save her husband's job and the family'snew home, Gin uses her Mop Squad job to investigate without telling anyone. Whatcould possibly go wrong?

Ginger and Rip are a team. He is the head of a small private school and Ginger volunteers to do whatever jobs are in need of being done. They have a son and a daughter who are continuing at their original school, but they are peripherally involved in this story.

There is a man who is murdered in the school. The man was a lawyer for the school as well as someone who considered himself a lady's man and who was not above cheating people when he could. In short, he deserved killing.

Ginger is a woman who has a great deal of inner thoughts. She decides what she will tell others as she starts to investigate the murder. The reader is told she is doing the investigation in order to help her husband. But, generally to me that did not appear to be very accurate.

I think that Ms Huston Murray is a very talented writer. I would have preferred more actual activity and less thought. I would have preferred a wife who thought her husband was capable of listening and speaking to her. I would have preferred a woman who did not feel so entitled that she could insult people and they would automatically give her information regarding the murder. I would have preferred a more believable woman who simply ignored the fact that someone burns her house to the ground, she has evidence that it is arson and she says nothing to anyone. To me, if there is someone who could do that kind of damage to her world, isn't it possible they could harm her family? Doesn't that inspire a sense of wanting to let someone know?

The plot is interesting and the characterizations are realistic.

I finished the book because I did want to find out the solution. I just felt rather like I had eaten a very small meal, and I was not quite satisfied.

Ginger Barnes, wife of new Headmaster of a private school on the Main Line in Philadelphia, is busy trying to be the best partner to her husband at the school. Ginger developes The Mop Squad which cleans up the school as best she can.

Murder arrives one day at the end of school in the person of the Attorney. Ginger quickly learns the Attorney wasn't truly liked, she also discovers he was over billing his time. These are not the only things Ginger learns as she tries to figure out who killed him before the school is ruined.

Ginger plays her hand and although she finds the killer...it literally comes back to threaten her own family and home.

Interesting story.

This mystery took me to a world I know nothing about - that of the private school. Not that it's an exotic place at all, but something different. I like to visit alternate worlds.

Ginger, wife of the new head-of-school and mother of two, is an appealing amateur detective. She just isn't happy with the supposed killer, although she reserves judgment on that while searching for alternate evidence. (She can be a bit sneaky.) Quite a realistic portrayal of family life and an excellent plot with unexpected twists.

This book reminded me of the Diana Mott Davidson "Recipe Book" Murder Mysteries. It kept me entertained and guessing. I have been disappointed in the Kindle e-books and Prime selections--too many of the same genre/same plot. The "beautiful woman moves to the small town to excape (enter your guess here). Opens up a (bookstore, bakery, or add your own), meets the handsome (sherrif, carpenter, architect, or whatever). She hates him. Somebody tries to kill her, he saves her, she realizes she loves him,. they live happily everafter. "The Maine Line is Murder" had a good story line and believable characters. I'll be reading more by this author.

This first book in the series, is about the Barnes family who move to the Main Line where the husband becomes the new headmaster of a private school.

The mystery held my attention and was solved 80% into my kindle reading which is quite unusual. The ending of the book was much different from anything I've read (which was a nice change of pace).

The characters could use a little more developing. The book was well written with no editing problems.

I enjoyed this series enough to begin reading the second book.

A sleazy lawyer is murdered, and no one really grieves, until Ginger Barnes realizes that the resulting scandal may result in the closing of her headmaster husband's Main Line private school. While her husband struggles to save the school, Gin throws herself into an effort to find the killer, an effort that will ultimately put her, her charming family, and even her beloved dog in terrible danger.

This family of characters, especially the mother, is one I will enjoy getting to know better in subsequent books. The extended cast of school personnel add to the interest without cluttering the novel too much. The plot was neat and solved just in time for Christmas. What more could you ask? A nice fast read.
Read a couple books of this series years ago. But if I had read this, I would never have read any other. A really terrible book, padded out with ruminations, main character acting so wrongly. Hard to sympathize with her.
