The third entry in the "Roger the Chapman" medieval mystery series was also released in the US as "The Weaver's Tale" and can be found much more reasonably priced under that title. A good entry, and one which establishes Roger with a homelife - not that he'll give up his wandering ways.

Kate Sedley’s long-running Roger the Chapman Medieval Mysteries is perfect for fans of historical fiction. Set in fifteenth-century Great Britain, Roger, a peddler turned amateur sleuth, investigates missing persons, secret letters, brutal murders, and much more, in this adventurous medieval crime series. Charming period piece: the scenery, occupations, and finery are medieval, but the foibles are of a contemporary nature.

The Saint John's fern : a Roger the Chapman medieval mystery. Roger the Chapman (Fictitious character), Peddling.

For one thing, I never met Clement Weaver and so am in no position to say whether this young man is your brother or no. I never even saw the dead body of Master Clement, any more than I saw those of his fellow victims. Nevertheless, Master Chapman, both my husband and I would be grateful if you could call on us tomorrow, so that we could refresh our memories of events now six years distant, and also acquaint you with a few of the facts concerning this man who insists that he is Clement. Dare we presume to make that claim upon your time?’

The year is 1476, and after a hard winter hawking his wares through the ice and rain, Roger the Chapman is looking forward to spending Christmas in Bristol, enjoying the warm hearth and good food of his mother-in-law Margaret-even if it means the young widower will have to endure her constant matchmaking. However, Margaret has barely introduced him to her cousin Adela when Roger's attentions are demanded elsewhere. The long-lost son of a wealthy Bristol weaver, presumed murdered on a visit to London six years before, has miraculously reappeared, to the delight of the old man and to the indignation of Alison Burnett, who refuses to believe that the bedraggled stranger is her brother Clement-the rightful heir to half her father's fortune. When Alison's violent objections provoke Alderman Weaver into disinheriting her altogether, she appeals to Roger's reputation as a solver of mysteries to prove her growing suspicions right.

I read a lot (probably averaging 3-4 novels every week), so much so I occasionally started to read some a second time, which is not my habit. The only novel that warrants reading more than once for me has been Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities." However, unfortunately Amazon neglected to indicate that this Kindle version of the novel I was not truly "published" 5-6-14 but merely electronically released on that date having been originally published some years earlier. So a few pages into the Kindle version of this very good Sedley novel I recognized I had already read it & spent $7.59 unnecessarily. Admittedly, my mistake though I'd like to return it. But come on Amazon, you gratefully advise us if we try to purchase a Kindle book we already purchased so why not disclose the true and original publication dates of novels & use the words "E-book released 5-6-14"?

Another wonderful Roger the Chapman novel. This one is about an 8 out of 10 as the series goes mystery wise but well worth buying.
