This book is a mixture of things that I liked (five stars) and that I disliked (two/three stars).
I liked the alternative history of the beginnings of the Catholic Church very much.
I also liked some funny parts. The preparations of the British inspector Dylan for Mr. Lang visits to England were hilarious. But the Gurt’s constant misuse of English idioms stopped amusing me already in the previous book.
The plot is not realistic, a little bit in James Bond style, which is OK, many readers may like it. However one would think that Mr. Lang should notice earlier that everybody he contacts ends up dead and maybe change his tactics.
So total: 4 stars, mostly for the alternative history.

Tried to get excited about this book but the storyline jumped from one place to another for no reason except to find a new locale. The most interesting character was 'Grumps', Lang's odd dog. This is a new author for me and will need to find another one because Loomis is boring.

Same story different day. Ancient knowledge, fanatic group, at least three certain death situations survived by the hero. This was my third Loomis read and the third time I have read essentially the same story.
All series books have a degree of repetition that makes them comfortable to read. The reader gets to "know" the. supporting cast, the locations, even the vernacular . If you read FBI books you know what SAC means.
This book, while well written, relies too heavily on a formula.

Overall I was somewhat disappointed with this book. The plot was thin. Seemed like too much filler vs too little substance. Did I really need a whole page related to the stewardess making him a cup of coffee - when that's all it was, no subplot lead in, etc.. As a previous reviewer mentioned, all of the adversaries were seemingly incompetent. The child aspect actually detracted from the story in my opinion. The book did have its good moments, but the book was just not a complete package. I really don't think his heart was in this story. I enjoyed the previous books.

Starts out with a good overview of Egypt and the Copts but then sort of peters out as it goes along. The ending was really a stretch. It was like the author was trying to tie a bunch of ends together without great success.

As close as you can get to a Dan Brown novel. A thriller from start to finish with just enough love and laughter to keep you going. Loved it and will undoubtedly read more by this author. Mo

Good writing - I really liked the first "...Secret" in the series, and went to find them all. By the 3rd one, I could have written them - or at least give anyone the plot summary after reading only half of the book. Just wish Loomis could change up the secret society theme - some little twist. PLEASE!
Tedious writing. A lot of repetition. I forced myself to finish it, but when I did, I wondered why I bothered.
