Biographical info John Coetzee's first book, Buks en die stropersbende, was published by Tafelberg in 1970. Another five titles in the Buks-series followed, as well as 23 other youth novels, some in English, others in Afrikaans. After attending Marist Brothers College in Johannesburg, John started his career as apprentice and later as electrician at the old South African Railways. His latest book Dance of the Freaky Green Gold was awarded the Sanlam Prize for Youth Literature (Silver) and was nominated for the Sir Percy Fitzpatrick Prize for Youth Literature. His hobbies include listening to classical music, choir singing, reading and walking.
