Kimberly Kilpatrick is a new student at the Riding Academy and would love to fit in at school, to be anything but the reject; the one girl who is picked every year for a year long torment of hell. Ashlyn understands where Kimberly is coming from and offers her a spot in her group, the Predators, one of the hottest groups in the school. The other two girls, Tanya and Nikki make up the group and they're all beautiful, smart, rich and not to be messed with. Getting in is easy, they ask a question and if Kimberly gives the right answer, she's in, if not, she`s out. Kimberly agrees to become part of the group and the fun begins. They start by tormenting and making fun of Sharon, much like she did with Kimberly. The game gets steadily more dangerous, resulting in Sharon's death and nightmares of a gray horse that kills children for Kimberly. What is the gray horse and what's its connection to Ashlyn and the others?

This was the first book of The Nightmare Club that I read when I was a kid, picked it up because of the cover and at one point, had almost all of the books. I sold it on accident a couple of years ago by mistake and got it back, thanks to Amazon. It's still one of my favorites and has been read several times through the years.

invasion

This book's not bad. Exclusive high school setting, mean girls, a picked on heroine, powerful girls who rescue her...for a price. It's all pretty textbook. I didn't really like Kimberly much (she was a little too guilt-ridden and follow-the-leader for my tastes) but she got it together by the end. The blood geyser was great though, as were all the lake scenes with the monster. This book even took a bit from Lovecraft's otherworldly monsters and Scottish mythology. Seemed a lot scarier a decade and a half ago.
