Due to the increasing demand for adequate water supply caused by the augmenting global population, groundwater production has acquired a new importance. Thus, an increasing demand for groundwater has resulted. Therefore, substantially more attention is warranted for transport processes and pollution remediation in groundwater than for surface waters.

Handbook of Groundwater Engineering. This handbook concerns the general field of groundwater from an engineering perspective. It covers the several disciplines concerned with the design and control of flow and contaminant transport in groundwater.

The main purpose of geosynthetic liner systems is to minimize potential groundwater contami-nation. This is the case of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) vertical barrier systems, which are used instead of traditional soil-bentonite cutoff walls in projects involving groundwater remediation and control.

The exponential return of the groundwater level to its initial position can be attributed to the different compressibility (±) of the aquiclude/aquifer conditions (a clay a sand a gravel, Freeze and Cherry, 1975). Pumping a well in a confined aquifer will release water from elastic storage determined by the elastic specific storage (Delleur, 1999). Earthquake forecasting.

This handbook deals with the general field of groundwater from an engineering perspective, covering the several disciplines concerned with the design and control of flow and contaminant transport in groundwater. Each chapter is authored by a specialist in the topic treated, and special care has been taken to keep the literature up-to-date with recent developments and research in the field. An essential reference for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, for professional engineers and professionals in government regulatory agencies.

This book is aimed at the practicing groundwater professional or advanced student. It is an excellent reference and review of almost any groundwater topic. Each chapter is written by an expert in the field. Each contains a well-presented discussion of key concepts and equations. The end of the chapter lists a handful of recommended references for further information followed by a comprehensive bibliography. This is your guide to the whole ground water field. If it isn't in here, you can at least find out where to find it.

A very conscientious textbook. The book covers a great deal of information including the occurrence of groundwater, groundwater flow, modeling, testing, geostatistics, solute transport, GIS, and remediation. The subject matter is complemented by tables, data, and graphs. which help explain key concepts and the mathematical equations used. I like to use this in conjunction with Handbook of Hydrology. A very good book for the practising professional.
