High performance cockpit displays utilizing helf COTS Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) have been and continue to be produced successfully. The composite image on a 3 x 1 array, is 3840 by 1024 pixels with a resolution of about 80 dpi. The system preserves desktop resolution, is compact and can fit in a normal room or laboratory.

Article in Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical . Turbulent Touch: Touchscreen Input for Cockpit Flight Displays.

Article in Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering · April 2010 with 21 Reads. How we measure 'reads'. To better understand the impact of turbulence on cockpit input methods we conducted a comparative study of user performance with three input methods - touch, trackball (as currently used in commercial aircraft), and a touchscreen stencil overlay designed to assist finger stabilization. These input methods were compared across a variety of interactive tasks and at three levels of simulated turbulence (none, low, and high).

Dopants and NLO Dyes: University of Arizona Marder and Wu have collaborated to develop a series of colorless, high dielectric anisotropy dopants for lowering the operational voltage of LC compositions.

Three differently colored phosphors for each pixel also known as phosphor triads, and depending on which phosphor the electron hits, that's which color the pixel will light up. Though CRT displays have greater advantage over mechanical gauges, however the amount of light in the cockpit and viewing angle seriously diminish visibility of displays.
