This book is the perfect thing for the target audience - people who already know electronics, who need schematics explained in plain english, and who are willing to put in time memorizing symbols.

I am not the target audience... I don't already know electronics and wanted to use this book to get into it. It was helpful, but soon I got snowed-in by the avalanche of symbols I was expected to memorize and the complicated circuits in the later chapters.

If this came with more general electronics information, or a companion book or something, and had a slightly slower pace, then it would be perfect.

I brought this book for my college class. This book shows you how to layout a circuit. It shows most of the common symbols used to identify the parts of a circuit and explains the schematics layout. This book has help me get 100% on all of my labs. This book is an excellent reference book for all from the novice to the expert. What a great reference book!!!!

Includes a diagram chart in the back even though there is no standard chart use

Book material is older and seems to be written by Canadian or uk territory author. A little hard to follow for newbie.

I'm a car-professional. I needed to learn something about the extremely complicated electronics on modern cars - not everything, not too much. I basically got in this book what I went to get. Only 100 pages of reading and a few pages of symbol-reference. And that's all! . . . I've near zero knowledge of electronics. Whatever the others' reviews are, I must bear in my own mind that this book is about "reading schematics" and interpreting them. Now my fear has turned into joy. And if this helps: I'm almost 58 year old - Jon

All in all I love the book and I will use it for reference and the price was right but I could have done without writing on the edge.

I'm just starting out in electronics and this book is very thorough without being too technical. I would recomend it to anyone who wants to know more about schematics and their symbols.
This book is very good for describing the basics. I think there should be more practical examples and practice items and more of tying the info to practical examples. Overall though a good reference
