Louis Wolfe Gilbert (August 31, 1886 – July 12, 1970) was a Russian-born American songwriter of Tin Pan Alley. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, then in Russian Empire, Gilbert moved to the United States as a young man. Gilbert began his career touring with John L. Sullivan and singing in a quartet at small Coney Island café called "College Inn", where he was discovered by English producer Albert Decourville. Decourville brought him to London as part of The Ragtime Octet.

In Turkey the past is everywhere to be savored. Its vast array of inhabitants throughout history have included not only Ottoman Turks but also many other races. Much of the country is pastoral, and includes semi-nomadic peoples. Major cities, on the other hand, blend inherited Turkish traditions and customs with a distinctly European lifestyle. One region of Turkey is very different from another. This book helps narrow the options with recommendations on what to see and how to get there, from the mosques and oriental flavor of Istanbul's bazaars to the extraordinary lunar landscapes of the Cappadocia cones. Literary excerpts by and about the Turks include Mark Twain on his disgust at the dogs of Istanbul, Freya Stark stumbling onto a circumcision and Irfan Orga on the day his mother cast off her veil. Third edition of a well-received and popular guide. Helps narrow the options of what to see in this immensely varied country. Literary excerpts by and about Turks, including Mark Twain and Freya Stark. An excellent read for all, from business to armchair travelers. Extensive historical treatment helps explain the complexities of a country midway between East and West.
