Costa Rica for Dummies. com User, 9 years ago. I just can't figure out how people could travel with only one guide book. It usually takes me 3 - I find that between all of them I can fill in most of the blanks. This one and Frommers were the best combination for Costa Rica but a lot of their info was duplicated because this Dummies book has "tips and recommendations from experts at Frommers" so it is like getting a different flavor of the same book. Why can't they just cram it all into one?

We found this no frills guide to be useful during our visit to CR.

The hotel tips we used for comparison to trip adviser, there are so many hotels that we relied on TA's content and photos the most.

The thing that can't be over stressed is the danger of the riptides and strong waves, which are lethal unless you are a surfer or world class swimmer.

Do your homework and use TA to compare to guide, learning some Spanish is a huge plus.

The biggest thing is the natural beauty, not the man made stuff.

CR is more expensive than it use to be, but still a good deal.

Expect plain, quality, simple meals with little to no spice.

If I hadn't been to Costa Rica before, I probably would have rated it higher. I think it is a good resource if you are a dummy to Costa Rica. Because I was not quite that dumb, it was not as useful to me. But I love the Dummies series. If you have never been to Costa Rica...or never traveled anywhere in your life, this might be a good choice for you.
