For those who loved Ellen Morris Bishop's outstanding and beautifully photographed "In Search of Ancient Oregon", this is a great companion book to take on the road and get physically engaged in the geology that surrounds us. The extra value is a tip on outstanding hiking areas of beauty - and, thanks to this book, a look at geology that you might miss otherwise. Highly recommended. See the world and great wild areas.

Geology. The western part of Oregon is greatly covered by forest so it is hard to see differentiation between strata and formations. In Eastern Oregon it is hotter, a lot less rain, and clear views of the geology.
You will fall in love with Oregon if you buy this book.

Very resourceful.
Buy In Search of Ancient Oregon and Living with Thunder Instead! Was hoping for a bit deeper insights like those books provide here. This is a decent hiking guide written by perhaps the best contemporary American geology author. Ellen is certainly the finest in the Northwest at explaining geology in a very interesting and accessible way.
